IQ0801 Designing for the Needs of the Aging Population
Advanced level
In 2005, older adults (65 years of age or older) represented 12.4% of the U.S. population and that number is expected to nearly double in size by 2030 (The U.S. Administration on Aging, 2006). Significant growth is only one reason why it is important to understand how to design for the aging population. As we age, we experience many changes in our physical, psychological, and social health, thereby increasing sensitivity to and dependence upon the environment around us.
